Wires crossed

Published on 26 November 2010

From

I was doing a bit of pro bono work for a friend of a friend not too long ago and I received this hilarious email this morning. I just had to share it with you. This is what happens when people gets their wires crossed:

Received 26 November 2010 at 9.46am from Jayd:

Ok, so I'm always up for meeting new people, and I can't thank you enough for helping me find someone, but I think we got our wires crossed. Facebook can be a grey area at the best of times, and having an ambiguous name like Jayd, it's easy to see how people can get my gender confused on paper.

I'm a guy, and my profile picture is me with one of my female friends. You suggested that I speak to a guy by the name of Darrel. Like I said, I'm always up for meeting new people, so I took you're advice and sent him a message.

We started chatting and it was quite clear that he was trying to make a pass at me. I thought he was gay, and although I was flattered, I don't swing that way!

Anyway, I moved away and didn't have access to a computer for a while. When I came back, I logged on to Facebook and Darrel started chatting to me again.

I thought I previously mentioned to him that I was both a guy and straight, but I guess not. So once again he started making passes. Again flattered, but no. He seemed like a good bloke and I was happy to continue to chat.

One morning, I was chatting away at work and he asked for my phone number. I thought it a bit weird, but being new to the city, it would be nice to make a new friend.  Problem is, he started texting me... a lot. It wasn't only that. He was ending his texts with xoxo and ♥'s.

After a few of these texts, I had to "remind" him that I wasn't gay, to which he replied; "why dose it matter if you're gay?".

I wrote back; "I'm not, but are you?"

"No", he replied. "Why would you ask that?"

"Because I've never seen a guy that end texts with xoxo when sent to another guy."

That was the last time I ever heard from Darrel!
